[Case Study] Large Wave Channel and Tsunami Tank for Tsunami Simulation
We support the enhancement of tsunami measures through large-scale simulations.
Research at the O.H. Hinsdale Wave Research Laboratory (HWRL) of Oregon State University, part of the George E. Brown, Jr. Network for Earthquake Engineering Simulation Tsunami Research Facility (NEES TRF), influences how people interact with the ocean, including where they live, how they maintain coastal ecosystems, and how they generate energy. Over the past 40 years, MTS and HWRL/NEES TRF have worked on the expansion of several research facilities, with MTS playing a crucial role in the expansion of each facility, from equipment planning to hardware and software specifications, system integration, and ongoing maintenance. As NEES TRF continues to improve the scale and sophistication of testing facilities, engineers around the world are able to gain unprecedented insights into wave dynamics and assess the potential impacts of marine events on humans, which also aids in developing more resilient structures and more effective evacuation plans.
